Camino Nuevo’s API Scores
One measurement of Camino Nuevo’s success is our API scores. API stands for Academic Performance Index, and it is a broad measure of school performance and academic progress. The API scale ranges from 200 to 1000; the goal for all California schools is 800.
The API score is calculated by weighting results on several state-wide standardized exams given to students in grades 2 through 12, primarily the California Standards Test (CST) and the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). The API demonstrates a school’s growth, and also allows for easy comparison to schools in similar geographic areas and/or with similar student populations.
As the charts below show, our campuses have demonstrated exceptional results over the last three years. They also compare favorably to state and district API averages, as well as to local elementary, middle school, and high schools.

CAHSEE
Enacted by state law in 1999, the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is a required test that all students must pass in order to graduate from high school. The CAHSEE assesses students in English Language Arts (ELA) standards up to 10th grade and Mathematics standards up to 7th grade. All students take the CAHSEE for the first time in 10th grade. Students who do not pass one or both parts of the exam have an opportunity to retake it in 11th and 12th grade.
